Switzerland

St. Gall, 1919

Through the missionary mandate of the German Fathers living in Rome, the Society of the Catholic Apostolate’s first Swiss House was opened in the Diocese of St. Gall, 1919. The following year, the Germans were expelled from Cameroon by the French colonists after WWI, and many dispersed to Switzerland. In 1920, those men founded the first house in Gossau to support the missions. As its Swiss presence continued to expand, it juridically became recognized as the Pallottine’s St. Nicholas of Flue Province, taking its name from the country’s Patron Saint. Today, it’s encompassed by 3 communities in Fossau, Morschach, and Fribourg.
